Netherlands Breaks Off Vaccination With Astrazeneca

Netherlands suspends vaccination with AstraZeneca. The Ministry of Health justifies the measure by the need to “adequately investigate” the side effects of immunization.

At least twenty people have been arrested in The Hague in the context of violent protests against the restrictions

The Government of the Netherlands has temporarily suspended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine to immunize the population against the coronavirus due to the risk of clots and after the death of a woman in Austria who had been inoculated with the biological.

This has been communicated by the Ministry of Health in a statement, in which it states that “based on the new information, the Dutch Medicines Authority has recommended suspending the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine as a precaution.”

This stoppage will last until March 18, while an investigation of the possible side effects of the vaccine is awaited, and will affect almost 43,000 people who were waiting for the administration of this immunizer in the next two weeks, according to the newspaper ‘AD ‘.

“There should be no question about vaccines. I think it is very important that reports (of side effects) are properly investigated. We must always err on the side of caution, so it is advisable to press the pause button now as a precautionary measure. I trust completely on our experts for this “, added the Minister of Health, Hugo de Jonge.

The Netherlands joins a battery of European nations that have also suspended immunization with AstraZeneca . According to the UN, so far Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Norway, Iceland and Thailand have stopped inoculation with this vaccine as a precaution.

Also this Sunday Ireland has announced the stoppage. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) has assured that “there is no reason not to use” the AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19.

At least 200 people were evicted from a park in The Hague for failing to comply with the measures.

Violent protests in The Hague
